info
Monumentals is a series of sculptures that are formed of plaster casts and inkjet prints. Together with Hunnybunlookingforsculpture it forms a diptych in which two attitudes towards the creation of sculpture are depicted. The physical sculptures (the Monumentals) present prints that show a classical nude holding the recognisable form of the echoed plaster sculpture. The artists touch and the material qualities of the sculpture are emphasised by the character that is shown on the print, though contradicted by the fact that the sculptures are reproduced. At the same time a critical reference is made to the classical depiction of the female naked body as something to gaze upon. Agency is being taken back by depicting the female figure as an active maker instead of a passive subject. Authenticity is juxtaposed with repetition whilst the objectified body is juxtaposed with the body with agency.
